Exactly two years ago, I moved to Miami to complete graduate school, and in approximately one month I am moving back to the Empire State! I recently accepted a great position in New York City, so I am packing my bags and saying goodbye to this perfect weather. In addition to wrapping things up here in Miami, I am in the process of preparing for yet another major change.
Let me just be honest, historically transitions have always been a little rocky for me, with my move to Miami being the toughest. Truthfully, I never really got a hang of life in Miami. During my time here I never felt like myself, struggled to set and keep goals, felt isolated, and used all the energy I could muster to simply make it through most days. It has not been fun, and I am still trying to find the lesson(s) in it all. However, what I do know is that I am stronger and better able to navigate whatever my next chapter throws my way because of this experience.
Naturally, transitions come with a wide array of emotions. I feel extremely grateful to have the wonderful opportunity to move back to a familiar place, in order to continue to pursue my goals. However, I am nervous because I am moving home a different person, and to, in many ways, a different space. Additionally, a part of my nervousness comes from the fact that I know I will have to bounce back from my time in Miami, and that will take work. I am also super excited about the plethora of opportunities that are coming my way.
I spiritually, mentally, and physically cannot afford to experience another period reminiscent of my time in Miami. Therefore, in preparation for my next transition I am going to be mindful about incorporating the things I know I need to thrive into my daily life (see my blog about getting back to basics, here).
Most, importantly I am going to Embrace the Transition by accepting that this is a time of change and opportunity for growth. By acknowledging/accepting my feeling about this upcoming change, being willing to do new things, and enthusiastically pursuing my goals.
Every Legend undoubtedly goes through several transitions. Whether it be starting a new job, moving to a new city, getting a new title, or making a career change; transitions are abundant in the life of a Legend. Although they can be difficult, they have the extreme potential to be beautiful periods of time that teach us exactly who we are, and remind us of our strength, stamina, and potential.
If you are currently in the midst of a major change I urge you to embrace it by asking yourself the following questions:
What are my feelings/thoughts about my upcoming transition?
What are the things that I can do to fully accept the current changes in my life?
What can I do to remain enthuastic?
What goals can I set to make my transition easier?
Over the next few months I will be sharing every step of my journey. I would love to hear about the current or upcoming changes in your life. Let's do this together! Comment below, or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and let’s chat.
