"The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit." -Nelson Henderson
It’s one of my favorite times of year: Graduation Season! It’s really hard not to get caught up in the excitement. I mean there is just something special about seeing people achieve their goals. The thought of people going out into the world ready and willing to bring their fresh ideas and energy into their respective fields is just exciting (I am getting super excited just writing this, can you tell?).
As I spend my free time scrolling through graduation pictures on Facebook and Instagram, reading the amazing stories behind the regalia, listening to commencement speeches (some of the best inspirational messages are given around this time of year), and thinking about my own upcoming graduation; I can’t help but reflect on of the process that all Legends go through. The journey towards becoming a Legend is full of celebrations that are similar to the graduation ceremonies and parties that are currently taking place around the country. Despite what many people like to think, these celebrations are more than just a glorification of individual success.
On the journey towards becoming legendary, so very often people get caught up in the fame, or monetary benefits of their hard work, and as a result fail to see the bigger picture. Your legendary accomplishments are in no way, shape or form, solely about you. Your success is about the lives of the people you will touch. Your success is about the younger people you will inspire and empower. It’s about the standard you will set. Your success is about honoring the people who have made it possible for you to achieve your goals. Your legacy is so much bigger than you. Take some time to think about the impact of the legacy you are building.
