nning of this month we introduced our #DARE2016 challenge. As we prepare to transition into the new year, we are challenging the Launching Legends community to Dream, Accelerate, Reach and Engage. This week we are challenging you to reach outside of your comfort zone. When was the last time you gave yourself permission to try something new, to step out on faith, to follow your heart even if you didn’t know how things would turn out in the end? These may not seem like practical moves for creating the life and career of your dreams, but the truth is, there is no triumph, no victory, without vulnerability.
When you set your intentions for 2016, we hope that you’ll consider these 7 reasons to stretch yourself. Remember, we’re in this together. Leave a comment below or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to tell us how you’re planning to reach outside of your comfort zone in the new year. We can’t wait to hear from you.
Getting hurt is NOT the worst thing that can happen. Often times we avoid trying new things because we want to avoid pain, but pain is temporary. You feel it until you don’t; and in the end you survive. India Arie said it best in her song Break the Shell: “life’s gonna hurt but it’s meant to be felt.”
Safety is overrated. I’m no daredevil but I do know that there’s a reason people spend hundreds of dollars to jump out of airplanes and climb really big rocks and run for 26 miles--there’s a thrill we get from conquering big risks that simply cannot be matched.
Chances are that the worst case scenario won’t actually occur.
Chances are that even if the worst case scenario does occur, it’s not going to feel as awful as you think. You’ll be able to bounce back.
You’ll never really know how beautiful your gifts are until you put them under pressure. When you reach beyond your comfort zone you give yourself the opportunity to experience what you’re really made of.
When you leave your comfort zone you give yourself the opportunity to experience something you might just enjoy a lot more than comfort--like passion, wonder, fulfillment, and even bliss.
The magic always happens OUTSIDE of your comfort zone.
