We all have those moments, hours, or even days when we feel blah, out of it,
tired, done, or over it. Basically, these are times when we are overcome with the fatigue that is very often accompanied by the hard work and intensity it takes to accomplish our goals. Fatigue is a common experience and can have detrimental consequences if not managed appropriately. In order to be at our best we have to be very intentional about how we manage our fatigue and keep our energy up. Below are some of the things that I do to stay energized throughout the week.**
Eat Right: Maintaining a well-balanced diet comes in handy when we are trying to fight fatigue.
Be mindful about what you eat and when you eat. Pack healthy snacks, eat lighter meals, and don’t skip meals. When you do eat, stop working and if possible remove yourself from your work area. Your mealtime should be physically and mentally restorative, and eating while you work robs you of that opportunity. Check out these energy boosting food from Men's Fitness and Women's Day magazines.
Maintain a Schedule: Having a consistent routine can help alleviate stress, create
balance, and keep us on track. Figure out when you work best and optimize it. Get into the habit of creating a schedule and sticking to it. Check out our Time Management post for tips.
Workout: A consistent workout routine is an excellent fatigue fighter. Join a gym class, take a brisk walk, or stretch. Working out 3-5 times a week has great implications for our health, including increasing the amount of energy we have to complete daily tasks. Sleep: “Team no sleep” is not for me! The work all day and all night mentality, although endorsed by many, can actually have a negative impact on our overall health and productivity. We all have those days when pulling the classic all-nighter is a must, but days and weeks of inconsistent sleep is not healthy. Create and stick to a sleep routine. Seven to nine hours of sleep is ideal for adults. Click here for some amazing sleeping tips and tricks from the National Sleep Foundation.
